Occidens Exhibition
Discover the origins
Designed based on the book Qu’est-ce que l’Occident? by the French philosopher Philippe Nemo.
The West could be compared to a table held up by four pillars: Athens, Rome, Jerusalem and the Germanic spirit. The upper table represents the Gregorian Reform, the foundation of the Western culture.
The exhibition takes a trip through history and the development of Western culture, with the aim of encouraging reflection and encounters.
There are four periods/junctures:
- Ancient Times: the choice between Pagan tradition and Christian faith
- Middle Ages: resistance against Viking, Hungarian and Islamic invasions
- Modern Age: renovation and expansion of the West against fragmentation and secularisation.
- Contemporaneity: a return to values of the Western culture against current time relativism.
